Wants To Use Old Madison Bridge For A New Film [Granite
City Press-Record/Jul 10/1980/US]

Another movie company is
interested in using the Madison-owned Chain of Rocks bridge, Madison Mayor Mike
Sasyk told the city council Tuesday night.
Sasyk told the council he has turned over the entire correspondence to Casper S.
Nighohossian, city attorney, to work out the details and then will be presented
to the council for its approval or rejections.
Sasyk said the amount of money offered the city seemed very small and he is most
concerned that the film company had enough insurance to protect the city.
Apparently only one or two scenes will be shot on the bridge and the name of the
film company is not being announced until details are finalized.
"One good thing about the movie, it will get the bridge some publicity, which we
need if we are going to ever sell it," Sasyk said.
Asphaltic Concrete Corporation, of St. Louis, was awarded, as low bidder, an
asphalt contract at
$15
per ton. Maclair Asphalt Co. bid
$20
a ton.
Several bids for cable for the cable television were opened and read. The bids
were referred to the purchasing and cable television commitee for study with the
authority to purchase on low bid, provided the cable meets specifications. There
are four types of cable needed for the system.
Bids were opened and referred to comittee for further study of the concrete
block building for the cable television system.
Bids for construction of the 31 by 32 foot building were: Limbaugh Construction
of Granite City
$38,400;
L. Wolf Co. of Granite City
$30,000
and C&K Home Improvement of Madison
$30,000.
An ordinance, dictaded by the federal government, regulating development in
special flood hazard areas was passed. The ordinance is necessary for residents
to purchase flood insurance.
All the provisions in the ordinance have already been incorporated into the city
zoning and housing codes.
The council went into executive sesson to discuss personnel, but took no action
when it reconvened.
