: News - "Escape" TV
Series
Current Status:
Canned. According to the book "John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness" Tribune
Entertainment canned the plans for the series after 9/11.
Facts:
There are currently no signs of pre-production of the "Escape" series
since Tinseltown
didn't bite it and Carpenter and company couldn't make it fly for the 2001
television
season. (Carpenter, Russell and Hill was supposed to co-produce the
hundred one hour
episodes in which not Kurt Russell would star.)
The show was going to be set before EFNY in the 21st century decimated
by man-made
catastrophes and surrounded by hardened criminals. But instead
of being a notorious outlaw Snake would have a more permanent job working for the President
as a roving
agent for the U.N., visiting surviving cities around the world
and helping to bring
normalcy to the devastated populace. But ultimately he must stay alive to
defeat his
nemesis, Police Commissioner Bob Hauk.
Misc: Howard
chaykin was hired as chief writer.
