News - Behind the Curtain with John Carpenter

July, 2012
Kim:

"Aiming for Fall 2013...my publisher made an offer I wasn't thrilled with, so we have to do some negotiation...and then it takes about 18 months to produce...If we can't resolve our issues, I may publish on my own..."

December, 2011
Kim:

"My book is on track for release towards the end of 2012... if I can start focusing on getting it together!
"

February, 2011
Kim:

"Right now, Malek Akkad at Trancas Films is doing everything he can to track down my negatives and high quality prints of my photos (contacting Anchor Bay, etc)...but my next book will be a follow-up to the Reggae book about the various Rock & Roll and Popular Culture Heroes I photographed during the late '60s and early '70s...so the Carpenter book is on a back burner until we can track down more of the art."

July, 2010
Kim’s first book, Bob Marley and the Golden Age of Reggae, will be published in September, 2010, by Titan Press in London. It’s available for pre-order now at Amazon, Barnes&Noble, and Borders.

Kim:

"I am actually meeting with Malek Akkad next week about getting the book off the ground...so keep your fingers crossed! And if my Marley book does well, Titan will be glad to publish the Carpenter book."

March, 2008
Kim:

"Progress is being made on the book... John sat down with me and gave me some commentary and has promised to write the intro for the book as well... and I've also recorded the commentary from Larry Franco (the co-producer and 1st AD) and Kelli, the unit publicist who worked on Escape. I have all of the black and white stills negatives from the movie (I don't know who has the original color... so many of the photos I've shot on John's films are gone because the studios or temporary production entities didn't really care to archive properly and much was lost in the various changes that occurred.

This project will take awhile... it is one of many that I am tackling... But I will certainly keep you posted as it gets closer to publication!"

She also tells us this:

"If you or any of the fans you are in contact with would like to see some never-before-seen stills from Escape (including Snake about to be garroted by an Indian) go to www.secondlife.com and make a free avatar of yourself and visit my two story gallery in that metaverse. On the second floor is a gallery with photos from Escape from NY and Halloween. Once you've signed up and created your avatar, do an in-world search for Kim Gottlieb-Walker (or Kurt Russell, or Escape from New York) and you will find my gallery and a transport to it."
