"In John Carpenter's dystopian 'city that never sleeps' there is still a thriving entertainment scene, from stage musicals to gladiatorial combat. I wanted to produce a design which could have doubled as a playbill for one of these makeshift events. Something which matched the dirty, deteriorating nature of the film's locations while still showing off some of their grandeur. The Duke has the best pad in the city so I chose to show one of the film's great fight sequences against the backdrop of all that extravagant moulding and lavish scroll work. Description: Last year Vice Press co-founder and creative director Matt Ferguson had the honour of working with StudioCanal on the release of their brand new 4k restorations of four of John Carpenter's most iconic titles: The Fog, They Live, Escape From New York and Prince of Darkness. All four brand new 4k restorations were done using the original camera negatives, with the colour grading approved for the new restorations and UHD versions by the films' Cinematographers: Gary B. Kibbe and Dean Cundey.
As part of the release, each film was screened in cinemas across the U.K. and featured brand new theatrical posters designed and illustrated by Matt, who is a huge John Carpenter fan. The response to these posters was amazing and from the 10th of January, for one week only, Vice Press and Grey Matter Art will be giving you the opportunity to purchase these posters in their classic cinema quad sizes, a huge 40x30 inches.
Each poster will retail for £50/$60 or all four can be purchased as a set for the discounted cost of £150/$190. Each print will be signed and numbered by the artist and the total size of the edition will be based on the number of posters ordered during this period. Each poster is a 30"x40" [inch] fine art print, printed on 250gsm Vitesse Silk Paper.
As a special bonus, customers ordering the full set will also receive a bonus, never before released mini print.

A couple of years back we released a set of quad prints for John Carpenter's Escape From New York, Prince of Darkness, The Fog and They Live by Matt Ferguson. The response at the time was great but we received a lot of feedback and demand for smaller versions of the artwork. In response to this, Matt has revisited the art for a series of A2 prints released as part of Vice Press Editions and to go along with the prints, we are also releasing a series of incredible limited edition pins and collectible coins by Florey! There will also be an exclusive John Carpenter chaser pin included as part of selected packs and a set of variant coins exclusive to Zavvi!
The idea and principle behind Vice Press Editions is to release new, open edition artwork rather than revisiting former releases, however with this set we made an exception as the artwork will be fundamentally unique to the original, timed quads.

This will be the first official poster for the John Carpenter classic released in 1981, featuring Kurt Russell as hero "Snake" Plissken. Also, this will be Grey Matter Art's second offering and first collaboration with Gabz, who said this about the project, "When Mike Gregory, co-founder of Grey Matter Art offered me an opportunity to work on John Carpenter's Escape From New York, I didn't hesitate much. My main intention was to deliver something a little bit different from what I've been known for until now… something less character based, more focused on the movie's atmosphere, and true to the original poster artwork. Being a fan of the original and iconic poster, my print also has post-apocalyptic streets of New York City, gang members, and the majestic Statue of Liberty [or what was left from it] dominating the skyline. Except Snake Plissken, in my version is all by himself: tired, hurt, on the run, and fighting against all odds. Perceptive viewers should also notice Snake's plane crossing the red walls of the New York City prison, and the bottom grid which is intended to be a tribute to visual effects used in the movie."
Creative Director Mike Gregory also had this to add, "When we had the chance to obtain the rights to Escape From New York, I was very excited and honored to have a shot at it. This movie, in my eyes is a true 80's classic, which still holds up to this day. Snake is such an iconic character, and I wanted to have this movie presented in a way that does it justice. Being this is the first authorized art poster based on the film, there was only one artist in my eyes that I wanted to take on this project, and that was Grzegorz Domaradzki [Gabz]. Though most collectors are probably used to his multiple character compositions, I think he did a great job that separates this from his other work, focusing mainly on Snake, when he is injured, and at his lowest. Gabz depicted this perfectly, and we are very proud to have such a great poster to release to the public. People have been waiting for this movie to have an official poster for it, and I think this is the one."
