Death Inc. (US) & Euro Death/Nightstalkers (UK) - Snake Plissken Resin Figure
Model Kit
Description: Snake Plissken as seen in Escape From New York
Sculpture: Steve West
Scale: 1:6
Released: During the early 1990's
Review: This 1:6 scale Snake Plissken resin figure model kit depicts our all
time favorite anti-hero as he was seen in Escape From New York that were
released in 1981. The original sculpt was made by Steve West, for Death Inc.,
and is a wonderful sculpt with a very good likeness of Kurt Russell. This was
probably the first figure model kit of Snake Plissken ever made and rumor says
that even Kurt Russell himself has one copy of it at home!

Jay-Dee (UK) - Snake Plissken Resin
Figure Model Kit
Description: Snake Plissken as seen in Escape From L.A.
Sculpture: Jonathan Dewar
Scale: 1:6
Released: During the 1990's
Price: $150.00
Review: This 1:6 scale Snake Plissken resin
figure model kit depicts our all time favorite anti-hero as he was seen in the
not-so-successful Escape from New York sequel Escape from L.A. that were
released in 1996. The original sculpt was made by Jonathan Dewar, hence the
Jay-Dee alias, and is a wonderful sculpt with a very good likeness of Kurt
Russell. However, as with most resin model kits made in the UK/Great
Britain/England the quality of the casting is at best really poor not doing
justice to the original sculpt. The moulds were probably misaligned during the
casting process why the figure kit parts and especially the legs look really
distorted and a whole lot of putty is needed to correct them. There's also a
whole lot of air bubbles on the surface of the parts that really needs to be
filled with putty. A great original sculpt made by Jay-Dee turned into an awful
resin figure model kit mainly due to poor casting methods and crappy resin
material.

Released: Sold to Village Comics in 1998 and released by them in 2001 for a

Sassy Satellite:
Review: The superior sculpt offers an exceptionally good portrait of actor Kurt
Russell as the one-eyed warrior, being perfectly proportioned, and posed in a
dynamic action stance. Naturally, Snake is brandishing his formidable firearm,
clad in his signature outfit, packing all necessary police armament and
gadgetry. Snake is cast in solid resin, and realistically finished in
movie-accurate colors, with fine, tight detailing.

Review: This 1:8 (1:10) scale Snake Plissken resin figure model kit depicts our
all time favorite anti-hero as he was seen in Escape from New York that were
released in 1981. Who the original sculptor and manufacturer was is unknown at
the moment (Darren Douglas) but it's a great sculpt with a very good likeness of
Kurt Russell.

Review By Omni, The Armchair Empire
Kurt Russell’s early acting days were
filled with Disney features, like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. I think
he successfully shed this image playing the slightly homicidal Snake Plissken in
Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. And this is how Kurt
Russell (and Snake) has been immortalized in plastic.
The likeness is very good – there’s no mistaking him for Mr. Rogers or Papa
Smurf. This is the definitive Snake Plissken. The sculpt is good, however, this
figure is more statue than action figure. His left arm is rigid and attached to
his torso without even a seam joint. So no matter what situation Snake is in his
arm is always straight. His head suffers from this problem as well. If it’s
moved to any position other than looking down his left arm he looks funny.
(Unless you turn it backward then it’s absolutely hilarious.) His stance also
limits the chance to put him in different positions. In fact, attempting to get
him into any other position will only net you the chance to watch him fall on
his face. His right arm is more articulated than any other part of his body, but
they can’t be utilized unless his coat is taken off.
Getting his coat off can be a trial in itself. First, you must remove both his
hands. Keep track of them or they’ll be lost and Snake will be stuck as Luke’s
stand-in for the, "Oops, there goes my hand," scene from director’s cut of
Empire Strikes Back that has both of Luke’s hands getting chopped. Working the
coat off I managed to split the rubber in at least two places requiring some
very precision gluing to repair it. The different look that taking the coat off
presents is pretty cool and it does free up his right arm to be repositioned but
it’s not worth the headaches. Then there’s putting the coat back on – I nearly
ripped off the right sleeve in the process.
Detail is very good. From Snake’s boots to his hair, no detail has been washed
over. The guns especially are very well done. Those dual Magnums look great and
the easily fit into his hands and in their holsters. The sub-machine gun it
bulky and futuristic-looking but it fits easily in his hand as well. However,
after putting the guns in and out of Snake’s hands the paint from his fingers
rubs off on the gunstocks.
Playability is severely limited due to the sculpt and lack of articulation. He
has the one stance and that’s it. But if you still feel the need to play with
him, go ahead. Be warned that the guns, his hands, his watch (which is tiny),
his holster, and coat can all be lost. You can play dress-up with him but you’ll
most likely end up shredding the coat. Snake comes with the standard Movie
Maniac mini-movie poster, so just plop Snake down in front of it and leave him.
The short of it is, Snake’s a display piece for collectors and fans of the
Escape movies.
